Fly With Your Own Wings – Monarch Endeavors

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in human resource services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Sumner, Founder of Monarch Endeavors, LLC, located in Lakewood, OH, USA.

What’s your business, and who are your customers?

Monarch Endeavors, LLC is an HR training and consulting company. We provide HR-related services to companies of all sizes and industries. Our specialty is helping clients through those “Oh, Sh!t!” moments when they really do not know the best way to proceed.

Tell us about yourself

I am the Founder of Monarch Endeavors. I am a recovering attorney with 18+ years of experience in labor and employment law. I was a litigator for many years but grew tired of the reactive nature of litigation. I wanted to find a more proactive way of helping my clients avoid litigation in the first place. I truly enjoy helping clients navigate the sticky issues that arise between employees and employers in a way that (hopefully) results in a peaceful and beneficial resolution for all involved.

What’s your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is taking the leap to become a business owner. That first decision is often the hardest and can paralyze many, but once you take it, there’s nothing like owning your own business and being able to realize your vision.

What’s one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the biggest challenges for me is continuing to take risks and push myself to expand Monarch. It can be easy to sit back and coast once you reach a certain level, but I want to continue doing more and helping more clients.

What are the top tips you’d give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make a plan before you start your business, including how you will survive financially for at least the first year.
  2. Leverage your current network and existing experience.
  3. DO IT!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I believe that anyone can be their own boss with planning, preparation, and courage. I am happy to talk to anyone who is considering starting a business of their own to share whatever I can from my own experience that may be of help. We entrepreneurs need to stick together!
